Patch notes and update history
The current version of Otterly Lost is v1.0.1, released on September 24, 2026 — one day after launch. Steam updates the game automatically, so a normal install is already on it.
v1.0.1 — September 24, 2026
The first post-launch patch, and its focus is entirely on bugs players reported in the opening hours:
| Fix | Detail |
|---|---|
| Shrines eating quest items | World shrines could accidentally "consume" carryable objects such as the Paw Button and the Egg. Affected items now respawn in their original location, so you can pick them up and carry on |
| Ending sequence repeating | The ending could trigger again if you entered the Fountain of Balance after becoming a Keeper |
| Item visibility | Visual effects on some items were improved so they are easier to spot and collect |
Your save file survives. The studio's note says existing saves are kept, and a consumed quest item is restored rather than lost — so a save that ran into the shrine bug does not need to be restarted.
v1.0 — launch, September 23, 2026
The full game released on Steam at 17:00 UTC, during Sea Otter Awareness Week, and the launch post describes what the full version adds over the demo:
- Otto's story from the very beginning to becoming a true Keeper, including a prologue the demo never had
- new areas above and below the water, plus new characters and quests
- new world mechanics, and "a little surprise for your favorite rocks"
- more cosmetics and a set of collectibles
- 20 Steam achievements, which the demo did not have

How updates and bug reports work
- Updates arrive through Steam. There is no separate launcher and no manual patch download.
- Patch notes are posted on the game's Steam news hub, which is also where the release and demo announcements live. This page is rebuilt from those posts whenever a new one appears.
- Bug reports go to the Steam discussions. The studio reads the forum threads — the v1.0.1 fixes match problems players reported there in the first day, including quest items going missing.
- Nothing in a patch has wiped progress so far. v1.0.1 explicitly keeps saves, and no post has announced a save-breaking change.
